2009 Fall Retreat
The Primary Questions of Life
Who am I? Why am I here? Why do I even exist? Have you ever wondered about these questions in your life? Jesus Christ came into this world with a purpose. He knew what the Father wanted him to do. He knew why he had been sent. Is it possible that God's plan and purpose for your life is revealed in the scriptures? Join us as we learn from Dr. David Glock as he explores these principle questions in the light of God's word. Dr. Glock will teach from the Upper Room Discourse recorded in John 13-17 to help us understand how to make sense of life's questions from God's perspective.

The Authority of Scripture
Presented by Dr. David MacLeod
Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, a practicing Anglican Christian, recently threw down the gauntlet on the subject of biblical authority, the doctrine which
says “that the Bible as the expression of God’s will to us, possesses the right supremely to define what we are to believe and how we are to conduct
ourselves.” Arguing against evangelicals who oppose gay marriage Meacham wrote, “To argue that something is so because it is in the Bible is more than
intellectually bankrupt—it is unserious, and unworthy of the great Judeo-Christian tradition” (“The Editor’s Desk,” Newsweek [Dec. 15, 2008], 4). What
are believers to make of a statement like that in one of our leading periodicals? The goal of this session is to set forth the importance of the authority of
Scripture, and explain the biblical basis of the doctrine.

Behold Your God! Recovering the Majesty of God
Presented by Mark Stevenson
A. W. Tozer once said, “The essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him.” Yet such thoughts have become a
commonplace for many evangelicals. The glorious God of Holy Scripture is being replaced in favor of a domesticated version who is more in touch with
contemporary sensitivities. Yet this move neither honors God nor helps people created to glory in the majestic God of the Bible. Thus this session will
attempt to correct current distortions by exalting the undiminished excellencies of our great God.

The Nature of the Atonement
Presented by Alex Strauch
The atoning work of Christ is the heart of the Christian faith. Yet renewed challenges to the penal substitutionary aspect of the atonement are receiving a wide hearing among many of our young people. We need again to reaffirm a clear, biblical teaching of the cross as God’s substitutionary work in Christ for our salvation. This is a doctrine we can never tire of preaching and remembering in the practice of the Lord’s Supper.
